clarity = good I could probably post a whole series of these “I thought I was finished” paintings if I had the ‘before’ images on all of them! Hope things are well with you two. Enjoy the Telluride trip.

Isn’t it amazing how some distance (physical or time-wise) brings such clarity? I love that when it happens. Really a wonderful painting! And thanks for sharing the before and after, and the process of “completion”.

I think you made just the right choices in your final version of this new painting. It is lovely!!! And a nice idea to share the before and after pictures and insights.

I actually retired four years ago, just kept the UW-Stout email address. We moved to northern Wisconsin when our house sold in 2009 and are still settling into a new house. Can you send me your email address?

Sally- How great to hear from you! I think I got on Facebook mostly to get reconnected with old grad school pals!
I assume you are teaching in some capacity, which I kind of miss- I have a small press in my basement, and now that ALL my stuff is down there, I hope to start making some prints again. I really enjoyed that rhythm, and still remember those hours we spent noodling around in Robert Glasgow’s class.
The internet IS a good thing after all! Yay

Hi Nancy, just found your blog and have been enjoying reading your thoughts. I’ve had some of the same experiences of late, having to figure out all over again just what I need to be doing with my work. And new directions have gotten me going again too. Am working in textiles now, painting and stitching on fabric, but it was a long scary dry period.

I remember that demonstration by Nathan Oliveira. For me, it was his painting back into the monotype after printing it that amazed me. I had done some of that in monotypes, to enrich or clarify, but didn’t know it was acceptable, or could be seen as just part of the process. Opened my eyes.

I’ll be reading more, and wish you the best.
